FREE total body MOT

This FREE total body MOT is a prevention approach to keeping the local community healthy. It is an ideal way to prevent injuries, strains and pains from occurring. Equally, it is an opportunity to find out the root cause of a health issue or symptoms.

Firstly, your case history is taken to ascertain the clinical picture of any apparent health complaints. Secondly, Details of your medical history will help contextualise the present state of your body. Thirdly, information about medication and supplements you are taking helps in understanding how your body is currently being supported and affected.

The osteopath will then examine your body for any sign of tension, restriction and improper function, including all limbs, the whole spine and pelvis, all organs and the cranium. This will build up a biomechanical and physiological picture of the current state of your body. It may be that your body is working well on the whole; or that perhaps a few lifestyle/exercise changes would be needed; or possibly that an osteopathic treatment is indeed required to help your body regain its balance and even resolve current symptoms.

Osteopathy aims at solely treating and resolving causal issues rather than just affecting compensatory tensions. Once the biomechanical root cause is appropriately released in one treatment session then the given compensatory biomechanical pattern is able to resolve throughout the body, as it is no longer needed.

How does this work?

Any causal issue anywhere in the body has to be relayed to the brain for processing, all via nerve pathways. The brain will then react in the appropriate manner and create a compensatory tension pattern throughout the body’s musculoskeletal system. This created tension pattern will then jeopardise the proper function of certain body parts, predisposing certain tissues such as joints, bones, ligaments, muscles and tendons to injuries once they are demanded upon, such as when doing exercise, digging in the garden, carrying something bulky, picking something up awkwardly etc…

These actions are not causes, but instead they are demands, and they should not result in injury or pains, only if the body’s biomechanics is imbalanced in some way. Even-though Osteopaths acknowledge these types of demands on the body, an osteopathic diagnosis and treatment is focused on the causal element, the reason why the body’s biomechanics is not working properly in the first place. Once proper biomechanics is restored, these demands can be managed by the tissues without giving rise to aches and pains or injuries.
